Mamapop Recommends: Jen's Picks for April

Be sure to submit your own recommendations over at MamaPopTalk!

440222680_c467726c03_mRecommended Book:
Blba_miniThere's only one book that matters this week and it's Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why It Often Sucks in the City, Or, Who Are All These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me? by Jen Lancaster, available in bookstores everywhere May 1.

Recommended Song:
Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Because it's important to know who sings Freebird so you don't mistakenly mention, “Oh, wait, that's not a Peter Frampton song?” to your husband and then almost get divorced.

Television Program:

I'd love to say something high-brow like The McLaughlin Report or Meet the Press, but what I'm really digging is Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School. The catfights! The snark! The ridiculous hairstyles! Mo'nique!n short? It's brilliant.

Recommended Movie:
I loved, loved, loved Marie Antoinette so much that I emailed Sophia Coppola with an offer to smite anyone who booed her when the film aired at Cannes.  (Miss Coppola has not yet responded.)

Recommended Blog:I'd be hard-pressed to come up with anything more wry or clever than Quinn Cummings' blog The QC Report.  Were she to post daily, my life would be complete.

Recommended Other Random Thing:

I'm obsessed with Vinotherapie by Caudalie's Merlot Friction Scrub not because it's a gentle yet effective exfoliant, but because it smells exactly like you're washing your ass with a pack of Juicy Fruit gum and what could be better than that?

Enjoy, and don't forget to buy a copy (or ten) of Bright Lights, Big Ass!

I'd be more than happy to post daily. So I can pencil you in for babysitting every evening from seven to nine...?

I loved Marie Antoinette too. Just brilliant. Even bought the book that was used as primary material for the film (have yet to read it, of course).

I have to agree, the book is really good- and I hate the republican party, Ann Coulter and pearls worn with clothing other than formalwear (several tenants of the book).

Quinn, the box of matches/frozen strawberry daquiri incidents aside, I am an AWESOME babysitter. Please move to Illinois post-haste and we can get the ball rolling. (P.S. Your recent post scared me off of espadrilles, possibly forever.)

I got my shipment notice from Amazon yesterday, so your book shall be arriving here in Portland shortly. I'll be reading it while drinking champagne, for the record.

Is that Quinn Cummings, the actress, perchance?

And I looked up your books awhile back on Amazon.com because I'm stalking you and now they show up in every Amazon.com affiliate thing I see and they keep whispering "Buy me! Buy me!" How did you get them to do that?

Yay! New Jen book!

Can't wait to read it!

I'll be at the signing on Tuesday! With my drinking shoes in tow...
