Bill Murray's Wife Files for Divorce, Asks for Restraining Order

Bill_murray Bill Murray's wife filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage.  But this is not your typical irreconcilable differences divorce.  Jennifer Butler Murray filed on the grounds of drug addiction, physical abuse, adultery and abandonment.  She is also requesting a restraining order.

According to court filings, Bill's alcohol, marijuana and sex addictions were among the reasons she moved to a new home in 2006 with their four young children.  It also said that Bill Murray once "hit his wife in the face and then told her she was 'lucky he didn't kill her."

Bill Murray's statement is after the jump.

"We cannot comment on the facts of the case," Bill's lawyer, John McDougall, said Thursday. "I can say that Bill Murray is deeply saddened by the break-up of his marriage to Jennifer. They remain loving parents, committed to the best interest of their children. And Mr. Murray asks the public respect his family's privacy at this difficult time."

If it is true that he HIT HER, he does not have the children's best interest at heart.  I work in family violence, and stuff like this makes me crazy!

The couple had a prenuptial agreement that stated Bill would pay $7 million dollars in the event on a divorce.  Jennifer has asked the court to invalidate the agreement, but did not give a reason why.  It was signed by both parties.

i generally don't want to read about celebrity divorces. period.

but this one - it makes me really sad - because of the allegations. i have always really liked bill murray, since i was a kid.

i don't want to believe it's true - but i suppose that's childish too, always wanting the fairy tale.

I have always loved Bill Murray. He makes me happy just seeing his picture - he's synonymous with funny. But, just like other famous funny guys, I don't doubt he's a raging jerk in real life. It's sad but not implausible to me.

My friend is getting a divorce in South Carolina and you have to really put it all out there in that state. If you don't have some kind of drug or alcohol abuse you can prove then you have to be legally separated for a year before you can even go to court to file for divorce. I also think you have to file to be legally seperated. And by prove, her lawyer told her she needed to have receipts for booze, bank statements, etc. That is probably why Bill Murray's wife is putting all this stuff in the divorce agreement because if it is true (and I am with AmyC65 that it is not implausible) then she wants to speed up the divorce.
P.S. Don't move to S.C., especially if you are a female. The laws and taxes suck. You can always visit culture.
