Tommy Lee Jones Suing "No Country for Old Men" Producers

I wish I could insert a "No Country for Old Men" joke, but I never saw it.  Was that the one where the drink your milkshake line comes from?  Small child means not a lot of movie viewing.

Tommy Lee Jones is suing the makers of "No Country for Old Men" for more than $10 million.  He filed a suit against Paramount Pictures claiming that he was promised "significant box-office bonuses" and other compensation depending on how well the movie did.  The movie made more than $160 million and won four Oscars, including Best Picture.

Tommy Lee claims he was not paid promised bonuses and had expenses wrongly deducted. The suit says he agreed to a reduced upfront fee in joining the film but was to be paid box office residuals.  The suit also claims his contract had known errors that the study did not correct before the movie was made.  He is also asking for an auditor to be named to review financial records to determine how much he should be paid.

The only comment from Tommy Lee's publicist was "the paperwork stands for itself."

I have no independent knowledge of this suit, but if he had a signed contract, and it promised him residuals from the movie, then I can't imagine he will lose.  As for errors in the contract, there is a legal phrase  "the document speaks for itself."  If he signed the contract, and preformed "consideration," which would be his acting in the movie, then it is very had to go back and correct the document after the fact.
