Rosie O'Donnell Is Right On The Munny

RosiemunnydollgrafittiRosie O'Donnell has been doing a heavy tour of talk shows lately to promote her new Lifetime Movie, "America", which she wrote, produced, and starred in.  As a parent to two foster children herself, the foster care system in the United States and its neglect is an issue close to her heart, and, from accounts I've read so far, it is good film.

I haven't watched "America" yet, but I plan to catch its second airing on March 3rd.  It's not really "America" that I want to talk to about here.

Every time I've seen Rosie on television over the last while, she segues from talk of "America" to another of her passions: the Munny.  She hand-draws on these Munnies obsessively and sells them at her Etsy shop.  All proceeds from the sale of her completed Munny pieces go toward the support of Rosie's Broadway Kids, an organization that "...provides instruction in dance and music and a professional theater experience for children who might otherwise not have the opportunity."

It's not really Rosie's charity that I want to talk about here, either.

It's the Munny.  After realizing the incredible creative potential of these gorgeous little dolls, I don't want to live a Munny-less life any longer.

Munny

The Munny comes as a blank canvas that you can paint on, draw on, dress, build for, cut, pierce, glue things to, or just keep the way it already is.  It's its own world of possibility built on one cute little character, and I want one so that I can love him and hug him and squeeze him and call him George.

In typical Rosie style, she wrote a free form poem on her blog called "Munnyville" about her first Munny.  Here is an excerpt:

art
the thing is art

i stared
unsure

then
i did what i always do
google

munny
view images

dear god
astounding what people can do
on this cuddly piece of vinyl

where to start
my heart pounded
could i

Aside from my personal preference for more capitalization and punctuation, I can feel her genuine love for these adorable 3D canvasses, so I did as she did and searched for images of what other people have done with the Munny.  After drooling over the crazy good Munny art that's out there, I completely understand Rosie's love for them.

I realize that I am sounding like some kind of Munny pusher here, but I assure you that I am receiving no remuneration for this.  I just think that the Munny is the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time.  Or in, like, ever.  JUST LOOK AT THEM.  Of course, mine wouldn't look nearly so polished as the ones pictured above, being as I am likely to dress it in pipe cleaners around it and give it a tin foil hat, but it's the whole crazy realm of possibility the Munny presents that's the thing.  The fact that I can buy my very own Munny for as little as $9.99 just seals the deal.

Munny Munny Munny Munny Munny.  Oh, Munny.

Are those speakers made out of Munny dolls? That is really really cool.

Kristina

Ok. One more thing to add to my "I Have To Have This Now" list.

:)

I know what everyone's getting in their stocking this year...

catnip

I gotta say, those are really freaking cute.

I'm almost intimidated by the possibilities! But you are going to show us what you do with your Munny, aren't you? Pretty please?

Karen

Those look kind of creepy. I'm probably going to be the only person in the United States to think that, but so be it. The ones that have been made to look like wee little monsters are even creepier.

Then again, I find nearly anything Rosie has done lately--including her precious haiku-style blogging--to be vaguely irritating, like the muffled sound of fingernails on a chalkboard.

You've got me hoppin' today. Now I have to go look at more Munny (Munnies?) (Munni?).

Rosie is just so damned good, you know. And the munny, well, as odd as it is, it is potential equalized and that is a very good thing indeed.

Oh, the Abominable Snowman. He just wanted someone to love!

He could have loved a Munny.
