Visual Aids for Your Pop Culture Education

Usa_sitcom_mapMy esteemed MamaPop colleagues and I would like to assert once again our philosophy that a well-rounded and comprehensive education in the pop cultural arts is an essential aspect to obtaining our much sought after degree, PhD in Non-Douchiness.

In my wisdom, I have added some visual aids to our curriculum. I think you will agree that they help to facilitate cognition...and other shit.

Our dear pop cultural brother-in-arms Dan Meth has taken it upon himself to draft a series of charts that illustrate some lesser-known but very important facts and details of the recent generations of media. If I felt confident using the word "zeitgeist" in a sentence, I would do so here.

Observe the illustration above, which shows the geographical settings of many U.S. sitcoms. I must point out an egregious oversight, however: Mr. Belvedere, which took place in Pittsburgh.

Dr. Meth also provides representations of sitcoms based in and around New York City, the living room/kitchen arrangement of family sitcoms, and an illuminating assessment of the suckiness of trilogies.

Please study these aids closely, as there will be a test later.

Rhonda

Colorado, home of South Park! Woot!

Darcey

This is so up my nerdy map-loving alley.

PomJob

I loved Mr. Belvedere and had no idea it was set in Pittsburgh!

JellyBean

How could he have left out Good Times which was set in Chicago?

JellyBean

Also, All in the Family & The Jeffersons for NYC.

Hilary

But the question remains....Where are The Simpsons?

JP

Words cannot express the joy this brought me somehow. I don't really understand why, but it did.

Awesome.

JZMom

Why is Grey's Anatomy a sitcom, but Beverly Hills 90210 isn't?

Personally, I love the sitcom set-up diagrams. Right up my data-dork alley.

SarahBarracuda

"It's a little wild and a little strange...when you make your home out on the range..." Yeah, I watched Hey, Dude.
Nice.

coco loco

'eight is enough' took place in sacramento. and i would counter that 'charles in charge' took place in southern california-- how else can buddy, charles' side kick (and a player on 'eight is enough') be explained? nobody in new york speaks like that...

bd

I must point out an egregious oversight, however: Mr. Belvedere, which took place in Pittsburgh.

HA! I just snorted Dr Pepper. Ouch.

michele

Still Standing was in Chicago--it was missed as well.

and clearly omitting Mr. Belvedere is an egregious oversight.
