Announcement on the Miss California Crown Scandal Expected To Come Today

Carrie_Prejean You know you have been on the edge of your seat waiting to hear if Miss California, Carrie Prejean, will lose her crown over some naked pictures she took while she was young and stupid.  Well, the wait is over.  An announcement is expected today.

But wait, isn't she still young and stupid?

Pageant spokesman Ron Neal said there would be a newsconference today to "address many issues surrounding Miss California USA."  In the meantime, the pageant's first runner-up, Tami Farrell has been put on standby.  Does this really warrant a newsconference?  With cameras?  Are we going to break into regularly scheduled programming for this?

Carrie has been arguing that this has less to do with the pictures and more to do with her stance on gay marriage.  But the pageant says she signed a contract which stated she had never appeared nude and then low and behold, it turns out she appeared nude (or almost nude as the case may be, it seems she was in lingerie in most of the pictures) and is therefore in breach of contract.  Didn't we learn anything fron Vanessa Williams?

In a statement given to CNN last week, Carrie said the photos were being used in a "vicious and mean-spirited" effort to silence her for "defending traditional marriage." She vowed to "continue to support and defend marriage as the honorable institution it is."

Carrie is not on the press conference attendee list, but Tami the first runner up is.  I think that may mean that Carrie's reign of terror is over.  Shanna Moakler, co-executive director of the state pageant, met with Tami this week to discuss the possibility of her taking over as Miss California USA.  "When you compete for Miss California, you're supposed to disclose whether you posed for nude or semi-nude photos, because it's grounds for disqualification," Neal said.

Wasn't Shanna Moakler a playboy model?  Hypocritical much?

Carrie has defended the photos by saying  "I am a Christian, and I am a model.  Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos."  She said the photos "have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith.  I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be," she said. "But these attacks on me and others who speak in defense of traditional marriage are intolerant and offensive. While we may not agree on every issue, we should show respect for others' opinions and not try to silence them through vicious and mean-spirited attacks."

Carrie announced last week that she would star in a new $1.5 million ad campaign supporting what she called "opposite marriage" (marriage between a man and a woman) funded by the National Organization for Marriage. "Marriage is good," Prejean said at a news conference announcing the ad campaign. "There is something special about unions of husband and wife. Unless we bring men and women together, children will not have mothers and fathers."

Is there any hope that this striping of the crown (pun intended) would also mean this girls 15 minutes of fame would die?  Because that is a campaign I could totally get behind.

Deb on the Rocks

The only bit of the Carrie Prejean mess that has me at all interested is that I have a tiny conspiracy theory brewing, and I love PR stunts that are so bad they play like conspiracy theories. Donald Trump's pageant hired Perez Hilton for crack's sake, to ask a loaded question to a chick on record for only loving opposite marriages. Perez was featured on The Apprentice this year as a consultant to The Donald on viral messages. I'd love to know who all is in on the game, and who was used, and does this really help The Donald make money? Burning questions like this keep me out of trouble.

I also like that it shows how pathetic NOM is. Oh, and I like one more thing, that Ms. Prejean knows that many, many lesbians are contemplating the relative hotness or notness of Carrie's nakedness. That's a pretty funny turn, too.

Shanna Moakler continues to do pictorials that are extremely raunchy, even if they aren't nude. This entire Miss whatever thing has really gotten out of control. I'd really like a show of hands to see who actually watches these pageants, and/or even pays attention to these girls enough to care about what they have done in their past or now.
I get the whole thing about not disclosing whether you posed nude, but my question is, if you have posed nude and you tell them that you have, can you still run for crown? And if you can, do they cover up the fact that you posed nude, or will they allow everyone to know?

I totally read the line as "addressing many issues of Miss Californication USA." Heh. And I just love the irony that it's okay for a woman to have nude pictures taken, for who knows how many men to see, but it's not okay for a woman to marry another woman. Whatevs. Please just go away.

Those folks there got enough nerves to demand she live up to her end of the contract and not grant interviews without their permission while they have been going out there trashing her.
