Model Gets Caned in Public For Drinking Beer or Thank the Gods I'm Not Malaysian
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking Sarah is crappy speller, canned has two "n"s. And while yes, I suck at spelling, this time I meant for there to be only one n. Malaysian model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno* was not fired but she has been sentenced to a caning for drinking a beer in public.
That is actually vaguely old news as she was caught drinking (in a hotel bar) in Malaysia two years ago and she was sentenced to pay a fine of 5,000 Malaysian ringgit and to receive six strokes with a rattan cane.
That roughly translates to $1,400 and a beating.
The new news is that Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno* has requested to be caned in public.
Her father said "We want to challenge them...They say they are gentlemen
who want to uphold values. Then the public should judge how gentlemanly
it is."
And we all know nothing says class and good judgment like beating a woman with a stick in public.
I suppose if all goes well it won't leave any scarring on the model and Malaysia will look like a dick hole in front of everybody and they will stop caning people then Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno* can go home to Singapore.
Oh yeah, she's not even Malaysian.
I'm going to go out tonight and drink a beer (or three) in public and raise my glass to Kartika and toast the fact that I live somewhere that the only people that hit me with sticks are my own children.

My back hurts just thinking about this, and suddenly I am no longer thirsty for beer.
Ouch.

Do you remember Michael Fay? The American boy who was caned in Singapore? At the time I thought it was harsh but I felt when you break a country's law you must suffer the consequences, even if they are harsh in comparison to your own legal system. I really had no sympathy for him.
But to be caned for drinking a beer in public? Maybe it's because I'm a woman, or maybe because I'm older now, or maybe it comes down to the fact that I have been known to enjoy a beer or two and in public but this seems harsh and extreme.

I think that the M'sian govt think that it's justified to do that since she's a Muslim woman, drinking alcohol which is forbidden. Even so, they've had raids on nightclubs and they have people drinking and taking drugs and shit but they didn't say anything about caning them. So what makes her so special? Because she's not M'sian?

I still stand behind my opinion that Michael Bay broke the law, and deserved the caning. He vandalized a car which is lightyears away from drinking a beer in a place where you are practically expected to drink a beer.

I snorted. And it was good.

Michael Bay has broken many laws, including the law of sound effects being louder than dialogue and the law that you don't remake a Hitchcock film unless you want to be cursed for life. (The Birds? You want to remake THE BIRDS, Michael?)
