Is Lily Allen Fleeing the Scene?

Lily_allenLily Allen, the über-cute British songstress of such well-known songs as "Smile" and "Fuck You", has declared that she is not going to record a third album and has no plans to tour again in the near future.

To this a wail a hearty NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I love me some Lily Allen. I love that her sweet voice belies the punch of her lyrics. I love that her British accent still comes through when she sings. I love her sometimes whimsical sense of style. Not so secretly, I like to dream that she and I meet up for pints with sides of mushy peas and jaw about the racket that is selling creative products. Lily and I duck out for a smoke, and she laughs at the impotence warning on my Canadian cigarettes package. Of course, she finds none of this creepy. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

Here's traumatic news Allen allegedly wrote on her weblog about her decision:

Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record (applause). I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade. The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t (at this point) stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won’t be much).

You will note that I said she "allegedly" wrote those words, because it seems that all evidence of the above quote has disappeared, at least as far as I can find. What remains, though, is a link from her professional website to a suspiciously empty weblog and some lengthy entries about the effects of piracy on the entertainment industry on her Myspace page:

Why do you think you are just getting Terminator 6 and Harry Potter 7 instead of exciting new voices? Because the young voices are not there anymore. Do you care about that, or do you just want to watch and listen to the products of the last generation? Or do you want a voice that is heard and can make a difference?
I'm hoping that this rumour of her leaving the music industry is all a load of horsefeathers, because, damn it, she's Lily Allen, and that's too much awesome to lose.

I'd say it's just a rumor. She's seemed really happy lately in her interviews, and, well, she doesn't have her house-in-the-country-with-chickens yet. Once I see THAT bit of real estate news, then I'll believe she's really done for good.

I think she'll be back. Whether it's a publicity ploy or just getting tired of the abuse by the paparazzi, her talent will find some way to come out.

You know, I try and I try but I just can't get into her. Something about the whole "look at me - I'm cute and sweet and I have a girly voice but I'm saying shocking things" makes me roll my eyes. It's why I've not been able to get into Sarah Silverman, either. So my response to this retirement? Meh.

I loved her until I saw her in concert and she came off as really bratty and conceited. I felt so disappointed. Still get her songs stuck in my head, tho'.

I really hope it's just a rumour too! And LOL at the impotence warnings - in 3 days I'll be smoke-free for 3 years. My penis has never felt better. :P

NOOO! She better be back. "The Fear" is my favorite song evah.

I love Lily Allen too! I think she gets a bad rap on a lot of gossip sites though :/ I hope she isn't retiring!
