John Travolta to Testify at Extortion Trial
It is bad enough to have your child die, but then to have people try to extort money because of it? Terrible.
The trial of 2 people charged with attempting to extort money from John Travolta after his son's death begins today in the Bahamas. A paramedic who responded to Travolta's call for help the day Jett died, Tarino Lightbourn, and a former Bahamian senator, Pleasant Bridgewater, face charges of conspiring to extort $25 million from John by allegedly demanding money for a document relating to Jett's death. Both have pleaded not guilty.
The crime revolves around a a one-page "refusal to transport" form that Travolta allegedly signed that day, saying that he didn't want Jett taken to the hospital, even though he was transported by ambulance. Lightborn's lawyer, Pleasant Bridgewater, called an attorney for Travolta and said her client wanted to sell the document to Travolta. Travolta filed a complaint with the Bahamian police and now needs to testify at the trial.
I cannot even imagine how painful that testimony will be. Not only will he need to relive, on the stand, the events of the night his son died, but also the attempted extortion a few weeks later. I hope the jury has tissues.
