Flavor Flav Returning to High School

Flavor_flav

Rapper, reality TV star, and all-around master of eccentricity Flavor Flav is heading back to high school to complete his junior and senior years. Flav's return to school will, of course, be part of a new reality TV series.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details, since Flav's Wikipedia page says he dropped out in 11th grade but then attended Adelphi University. I don't see any mention of a GED, but he must have received one. I'm guessing that the return to school will be to actually attend those two grades and perhaps receive an actual diploma. This tactic also guarantees at least two seasons of the show. So, good thinking there.

Flav says, "I just want to show the world it's never too late to get your diploma, and show kids they should stay in school and not wait until you're old to get it." Kind of a vague statement, but with some reports stating that high school dropout rates are over 50 percent in some states, we can't really shun anyone who is willing to get the message across. I don't think anyone would disagree that you absolutely MUST finish high school to make it anywhere life and knowing that that many kids are dropping out is heartbreaking. The challenge that Flav's show will face is balancing the inevitable hijinks with the very real message that Flav was very, very fortunate to have a successful music and entertainment career. And that most people who drop out face some unimaginable hardships.

That said, I can't wait to see the aforementioned hijinks. Some possible episode themes could be, "Flav Takes on the Cafeteria's Mystery Meat," or "No, Seriously, When Will I Use Algebra in Life?" or "Flav Starts the Found Object Jewelry Club" or "Flav Goes Out for the Varsity Football Team" or simply, "School! YEEEEAAAAHHHH BOOYYYYYEEEEEE!"

Cannot. Wait. Will Brigitte Nielsen be making a surprise appearance as the vice-principal?

KBO

I'm sorry, but Flava Flav should not be around teenage girls.

As a teacher, I don't really like the idea. His statement that "it's never too late to get your diploma" is not really true since most public schools don't allow students to attend past the age of 21. I guess that rule doesn't apply when you have a lot of money and a reality TV show. His being in the class, along with all the cameras, will just be a distraction for the regular students. He might be trying to get a message out, but it's going to be at the cost of the students who will be in his classes.
