Rick Springfield to Cameo on Californication

CalifornicationThe third season of Showtime's Californication premiered a few weeks ago and, not surprisingly, Hank Moody's antics have already made for many cringe-worthy moments. Karen is working at her dream job in New York, Hank landed himself a teaching gig at a university after pushing the original instructor right the hell off the wagon, Runkle is trying to get back into Marcy's good graces and the agency industry after his pr0n career and pr0n girlfriend failed miserably, and Becca is navigating the extremely choppy waters of adolescence made even more turbulent by her wacky parents.

During this week's upcoming episode, which premieres on Showtime on Sunday, October 11, at 10 p.m., while Hank is undoubtedly pulling off some Seinfeld-plus-cocaine-esque nonsense, Runkle will focus his efforts on his career. He's starting more or less from the bottom at his new agency and is working hard to avoid the wrath and advances from his boss, Sue Collini, played by Kathleen Turner. He manages to land Rick Springfield, 80s pop star and soap opera stud with promises of advancing his acting career and reviving his ability to get "top shelf" ladies. Collini is literally hot and bothered by Runkle's smooth moves. Check the sneak peek:

The Collini character is downright bizarre. Turner's raspy voice lends an extra level of wtf to her "sexual harassment isn't just for men anymore!" schtick.

Anyway, the Springfield cameo looks to be just as funny in that groan-and-cover-your-eyes way that the show has perfected. I'm eager to see what methods Runkle uses to pull him out of his housewives in Tarzana slump. Californication: so wrong, it's right. Sort of. Just so long as you go to church or something after watching.
