Domino's Pizza Resurrecting the Noid

The_noid Until I had heard about this the other day, I had blissfully forgotten about Domino's ill-conceived advertising campaign of the late 1980s. But now, the Noid is making a slow comeback. And...argh!

The_noid  In case you are too young to remember or, you know, spent the 80s doing something more productive than getting irritated at pizza ads, the Noid first appeared in Domino's commercials around 1986. He was a villainous character in the same vein as the Hamburgler and the Cookie Crisp Crook, though with different motivation. The Noid didn't want to steal and horde Domino's pizzas; he wanted to destroy them altogether.

The return of the Noid, for now, was just limited edition "Avoid the Noid" t-shirts that were available for customers to order, with the proceeds going toward St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. So, obviously I feel a little weird poking fun at the whole thing. But now that the shirts seem to have run out, Domino's is matching donations. Which is great and all, I'm just uneasy at the Noid's involvement at all. Now that his return was apparently eagerly received, is he going to start appearing in commercials again? Guh.

Regardless, it doesn't affect my decision to purchase Domino's or not. I'm fortunate enough to live in a city that has many options for pizza. We're not New York City or Chicago, but nearly everyone in Pittsburgh has a local, independent pizza shop and doesn't need to rely on a chain. And frankly chain pizza doesn't hold a candle to even the crappiest independent pizza in my opinion. I'm just, shall we say, an avid consumer of television and advertising and I have certain standards the the Noid doesn't meet is all.

Amen, kdiddy.
I relocated to NJ last year and have finally found real pizza. We can't get Pizza Hut, Dominoes, Papa John's or any "big chain" pizza delivered. You know I'm to lazy to go pick up my own pizza! But I don't miss them. I have found the saving grace of NJ and it is the local pizzerias. They don't even compare.
Now I'm hungry.

I'm not the Herb you're looking for.

I'm not a fan of the noid, but maybe having him around will bring a return of his claymation brethren: The California Raisins. I miss them so. I used to have the California Raisins on tape, sadly I no longer have a VCR.

Alexa

I meant to say I had the California Raisins Christmas Special on tape.

OMG. The Noid had disappered into that forgotton memory land of the dusty back corner of my synapses.

WHY OH WHY DID YOU BRING IT BACK!
