Snoopy Named Most Popular Dog

23438_WrenSite_DancingSnoopy[1]For the American Kennel Club's 125th anniversary they held an online poll to determine the number one dog in pop culture. To no one's surprise, Snoopy won. Now keep in mind that the American Kennel Club chose all the potential winners. You didn't nominate someone yourself. They came up with a huge list and people went to a website to vote. The Top Ten in the poll are below:

1. Snoopy
2. Texas A&M's Reveille
3. Scooby Doo
4. Eddie from the TV show "Frasier"
5. Pound Puppy toys
6. Painting "Dogs Playing Poker"
7. Song "How Much is that Doggie in the Window"
8. Georgetown's Jack the Bulldog
9. The song "Who Let the Dogs Out"
10. Brian Griffin from the animated TV show Family Guy

This list bothers me. Should be count a song with the word "dogs" in the title be a "dog in pop culture"? I heard about the list in a cab on the way home last night and all they mentioned was Snoopy. So I did some digging to find the rest of this but in my head I imagined that the list would, in the top ten, include Marmaduke, Clifford and maybe Benji. Lassie, of course, would be number two.

Do you see how wrong I was? None of my runners-up were there. Lassie was number 11, Marmaduke 17, Clifford 18 and Benji 27. I am utterly out of touch on dog pop culture. Then again I'm a cat person, so maybe that's why. Still, I find it odd to be that out of touch and now have a desire to study dog pop culture.

And then I stop and think about what I just said. "I have a desire to study dog pop culture." Then the drinking starts. I tell you, I should be happy to be out of touch. But, guys, Goofy was 29 and Dogbert was 97! This world has gone mad.

Dana, as a hellhound, in Ghostbusters isn't even on the list. You can see the whole list (it's a pdf) over here.

Rin Tin Tin?

mouthy_broad

a song with the word dog in it (and a terrible derogatory song one of them is) should not count.

it is an odd list. but i guess the people have spoken.

What about Sandy from Annie?

This is maybe the dumbest poll ever held. A painting?? SONGS? No. Stupid.
