An American Idol Scandal Already? Allegations of Plagiarism Dog 'Pants on the Ground'
Good old General Larry Platt. Who would accuse the 62 year old American Idol contestant of ripping someone off for his song 'Pants on the Ground'? Who, I ask you? Some band I've never heard of, that's who.
Michigan group The Green Brothers have pointed that Platt's 'Pants on the Ground' is remarkably similar to their 1996 'Back Pockets on the Floor'. The band posted their song on YouTube and invited America to be the judge.
That's what they said: YOU BE THE JUDGE AMERICA!!
I don't get it. First of all, isn't there a court system in America to settle these kinds of disputes? What are the logistics of joining every single citizen of the USA into one gigantic judge-thing? Where would you put this gigantic meta-judicial beast? How would you achieve consensus? What about Alaska and Hawaii? Is this just a way to flush out illegal immigrants? And if everyone in America becomes part of some Judge, who will carry out the sentence and run the comissary?
This is why copyright legislation needs some sorting out.

It doesn't sound all that close to me...unless all rap songs are the same. There's one line that's really close, but as someone else said...it's not like he made money off that song.

I don't hear anything similar at all. The main lyric of that song seems to be "Time to say no to the gangs and the drugs and the drugstore". Just because both songs are titled "(Something) on the (something)" doesn't make it plagiarism. Sorry, Green Brothers.
