BeautifulPeople.com Reminds Us of What Is Important in Life

Jocelyn_wildenstein The holiday season is about reflecting on what is good in life and finding some sense of gratitude and contentment, even in the darkest corners of existence. And New Year's is about obsessing over your flaws and embracing any superficial tendencies you have and resolving to become a better person and having nightmares about the plate of cookies that you ate. And one dating site is helping you to weed out the less-thans in life.

BeautifulPeople.com is in the news (or "news" as the case may be) for their recent decision to expel over 5,000 members for gaining weight during the holidays. CNN.com reports that founder Robert Hintze stated, "As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld...Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded."

Charming.

Considering that the site has very strict admission policies, which require prospective members to be approved as beautiful enough by the other members, I'm guessing that the "fatties" are people who gained a shocking five pounds or so during the holidays.

Yeah, you know, whatever. I can't even expend the energy it would require my fat ass to get upset about this. It's so absurd that it's either performance art or a slightly clever method of ensuring a ton of traffic (which equals more applications, which equals more money, which equals more sugar-free Red Bull and cocaine). Back in LiveJournal's heyday, there was a community called "nonuglies" (I think) that was basically the same concept. Sometimes, you just gotta let the idiots out to pasture.

Holy Crap Livejournal. I haven't checked my account in ages.
I have never heard about this website until now. Is it something Spencer Pratt came up with? Holy crap, Spencer Pratt.
So it's a serious website huh? Sometimes i think that people should police those types of websites as much as they do porn. It can do terrible amounts of damage to people out there with bad self-esteem.
It can also make people believe that the color orange is a beautiful color for skin, and we all know it's not.

My vote is for shameless traffic mongering. Because I certainly went immediately to the site to see just how beautiful these people (think they) are. And was greeted by a screen that told me I couldn't, because of so much traffic from the "media" coverage.

Eh. Beauty is overrated.

I had to go check this site out. The best part is below where you register. It says "too ugly to sign up? Click here to browse as a guest." Wow. Talking about beating me up when I'm down. Heh. Of course, I clicked and then got that message that certain people aren't allowed in due to the excess traffic. It's like high school on the internet. A friend and I used to say we would love to be one of the "beautiful people" for a day just to see what it was like. I think I'll pass on that. I like my average self.
