From Paris with Love Shaping Up to Be My New Favorite Movie

John_travolta_from_paris_with_love Early last year, images of a bald and goateed John Travolta dressed in some kind of militant hipster outfit began circulating the internet. It seemed safe to assume that the get-up was for a movie, but I couldn't be sure. Perhaps the whole Scientology thing was moving into some next level business. Who knows?

John_travolta_from_paris_with_love It was for a movie, of course. From Paris with Love, to be exact, and it's coming out next Friday, February 5th. Travolta plays Charlie Wax, an American spy, working with a young US Ambassador employee, James Reece (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers...purrr).

The plot? Eh...not really important. The trailer will tell you just about everything you need to know.

Basically: CARS FAST. BIG BOOM. DON'T MOVE! ROCKET LAUNCHER! PUNCHKICKSTAB! SLOW-MOTION SMACK DOWN! SLOW-MOTION RUNNING AND SHOOTING IN A WAY THAT WOULD PROBABLY MAKE YOUR WEAPONS JAM IN REAL LIFE! PEW PEW PEW! WELCOME TO PARIS, BABY! I AM A GRIZZLED VETERAN AND WILL NONCHALANTLY TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS! I AM TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT!

In other words, sure to be a classic. Sure to make 100 jillion dollars. Also, the tag line? Two Agents. One City. No Merci. MERCI. Get it? Because it's set in Paris and they speak French there? HaHA! Oui oui!

I thought of this movie last night because I saw a trailer for it (which I, of course, can not find online anywhere) in which Travolta's character tells Rhys Meyers' character, "Every man has his vices. My vice? A Royale with Cheese."

Seriously?

My husband and I sat with our jaws open for a minute until he finally said, "Quentin Tarantino should beat his ass...Although, Quentin Tarantino now makes steaming piles of shit like Inglorious Basterds. He probably insisted that they put that line in there."

Anyway, this movie looks terrible but in that really fantastic way that makes Armageddon one of my all-time favorites. And considering the horrific life events Travolta endured last year, I'm cutting him some slack on this one.

Plus, I'm happy to see that Paris has recovered since that asteroid obliterated it in Armageddon.

Well at the very least whoever edited the trailer knows what will stand out. Much like the writer of this article I stopped everything I was doing and just froze in time when the "Royale with Cheese" line was spoken. I felt violated slightly. At least I already know this movie will be horrible beyond any imagination. Once again I question why Tarantino chose Travolta's career over all others to resurrect. What has he done since Pulp Fiction?? (pause while checking filmography) Get Shorty and Primary Colors are the only two movies half worth mentioning. What a waste of a career.

Oh and to the poster who believes the writer's enjoyment of Armageddon means their opinion on Inglorious Basterds is invalid should remember that she enjoys Armageddon because it is ineptly directed but as opposed to most horrible films it has a budget over 100 mil (and then some). If you want to see something similar see Ghost Rider. This is akin to enjoying (i know this is reaching back) William Hung. Yah any idiot can tell he is untalented but the trained ear will notice every single F up he makes (which are many). Armageddon has so many mistakes and horribly edited scenes that any cinema lover has to enjoy just how much was screwed up. To make it short, if you love and obsess over film then watching a piece of shit like Armageddon is much like gold found in a pile of shit.
Monkeys do not direct films so Armageddon is the closest we will ever come to that.

I think that most of you are missing the point which is that this is the most ill-conceived and disastrously planned movie ever. Why it is not going straight to video is beyond me.
