I Guess Panic Rooms Aren't Just for the Mentally Ill Anymore

Kurt_westergaard I always thought that people who had a panic room in their house automatically qualified as clinically paranoid. I mean, really, who needs a panic room? If you are at high risk for a home invasion you can get a really nice alarm system or some beefeaters or something. Right?

Kurt Westergaard actually needed and used his panic room on Friday.

Yes, the Danish cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard.

When an ax wielding, knife having crazy man busted through Mr. Westergaard's front door Kurt and his 5 year old granddaughter locked themselves in the home's panic room.

I guess if you provoke terrorists by drawing cartoons that blaspheme their main prophet enough times you are just asking to be terrorized.

In the words of the late great Kurt Cobain, just because you're paranoid don't mean they're not after you.

. . . . .

Goon Squad Sarah doesn't really think mental illness is funny, but she does still think panic rooms are hilarious.

Thank you for having the guts to post the comics. I'm glad the guy is still safe.

According to what I read, he ditched his grandchild and saved himself.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/article6973966.ece

"He did not have time to collect the child from the living room before locking himself into a “panic room”"

Did not have time? DID NOT HAVE TIME?

“I feared for my grandchild,” he told Jyllands-Posten, the newspaper that had commissioned the cartoon. “But she did great. I knew that he wouldn’t do anything to her.”

Considering those first two quotes, I found this one ludicrous: "He puts a brave face on his plight. “At my age you are not so much afraid any more,” he told The Sunday Times last year."

That is the most upsetting thing I have heard in a long time.

Holy Shit...I was all on board til I got to the part where he DID NOT HAVE TIME TO COLLECT THE CHILD. Because of the AX WIELDING PSYCHO. I am sorry, but shouldn't he be put in jail for that kind of neglect? Or at the very least, never left alone with kids again?
