Baba Wawa to End Iconic Oscar Interviews After this Year

Barbara_walters Barbara Walters' interviews with nominees on Oscar night are as much of an institution as the red carpet, "Who are you wearing?" circus. But this will be the last year.

Barbara_walters Walters, who turned 80 last year, still does more in a work day than most people half her age, but has been in semi-retirement since 2004. She's been continuing to host ABC's The View and other special programs and began the Oscar night interviews in 1981. On yesterday's The View, she announced that this would be her last year, as she's beginning to feel like she's "been there, done that."

The Oscar interviews are perhaps the best example of Baba Wawa's interview style. Dewy, soft-focused actors, giddy about their nominations, and answering Walter's rounded-r questions about whatever will make them tear up.

The Academy Awards are the one Hollywood event that I get totally wrapped up in. I maintain a healthy level of cynicism, but I watch the whole thing, interviews, red carpet, and all. I will definitely miss this aspect of it.

ABC has not yet stated what, if any, plans that they have to fill the void.

Just because, here's a clip of Gilda Radner doing her famous Baba Wawa bit.
