The Wild Hunt Glamorizes Vikings. Role-Players.

The_wild_hunt_movie_larp-266x300  I just saw the trailer for The Wild Hunt, an independent film directed b Alexandre Franchi that debuted at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and now I'm so confused about my feelings that I may have to go see a therapist and try and figure out which one of my parents damaged my id in early development. I think it's about a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) excursion that goes horribly wrong, or maybe its about time-travelers who go back to Viking times. Or maybe it's about sexual assault, because there seems to be some of that in there too. Either way, I'm just going to go sit in the corner for a little bit and hug myself.

I also can't figure out if it a comedy or a drama, because let's face it, even though we are all on the internet and pretty much everyone reading or writing this is WAY too aware of Star Wars, those LARP people are super-geeks because they thought of it first, and they wouldn't even look at my application because of a couple of priors which were totally supposed to be expunged from my record because I was a juvenile, but whatever...Dorks! Where was I going with this? Oh right...the presence of such obvious geek-fodder led me to believe this was a comedy. But then the trailer does a 180 and it's creepy and environmental and violent and there is not so much hilarious shots of people hitting each other in the nuts with foam battle axes, and a lot more things that look scary and illegal. Like when your friend invited you over to his house, but it was really an illegal cock-fighting dungeon. Allegedly.

THE WILD HUNT
"Ax not what your country can do for you..." (*punches self in groin for that joke*)

What it boils down to for me is the creepy guy running around in a cloak with a deer skull on his head. Because I don't care WHAT the Vikings thought was cool, that shit jacked me right up. What the hell? One minute I'm laughing at LARPlings fighting over whether or not someone is dead from a terrible pretend wound inflicted by a cardboard sword, and then POW! Scary Deer-head Man. It's like someone offering you a hysterical pie-shell filled with shaving cream and telling you "HAHAHAHA! Hit Bob in the face with THIS!" and then when you do , it turns out the shaving cream is made out of nanobots that eat Bob's face off, and guess who's guilty all the sudden. That's right...YOU! Stupid Deer-Head guy.

I think we can all agree that Vikings are badass, and that LARP guys are maybe NOT so badass, but they have a lot of fun pretending to be badass Vikings, so let's just give them some slack. What I'm trying to say with all this is this movie looks really interesting if nothing else, and when I get back from the therapist after a long session of talking about the mean Deer-skull guy, I will probably seek this film out as one to see. It has no distributor yet, though. So basically, I just did a preview of a movie that I can't describe accurately, that stars no one you've heard of, and may be impossible for you to see anyway(s). I'm so good at my job.

Here's the trailer. It's a little bit sweary so unless you work in a Tourette's clinic where it's cool to drop the f-bomb all willy-nilly, maybe hold off on watching it until later.

It seems like Blue Velvet with Vikings and David Arquette. Wow. I want to see it and then can I call you for your therapist's number? Kthnks.

Could you please, next week, do a pre-review of a movie that doesn't creep me the fuck out without even seeing it? My list of requests: no killer dwarfs and no scary deer-scull posters. That's it. Please? Thankyouverymuch.

BEST movie review ever!

I'm frightened and totally skeeved. and also, I think I want to see it. Is that weird? Does it make me mentally unstable?

Freaky...and scary and "It's a little bit sweary so unless you work in a Tourette's clinic where it's cool to drop the f-bomb all willy-nilly, maybe hold off on watching it until later." made me laugh out loud - thanks!
