I read this article while looking for info on the Temple Grandin movie (which was wonderful). I was disappointed in Saines though...as a mom, I wish we would all use person first language. Her son has autism. Saying a child is autistic labels them first and makes them their disability instead of one aspect of them. Also, she asked where 1 in 70 boys with autism will live? She should know that so many being diagnosed are high-functioning and will go on to have families, careers and their own homes. The article just struck me as odd, coming from someone who is supposed to know so much about autism.
