Ben Roethlisberger Accused of Sex Assault, Again

Ben Roethlisberger My husband is a huge Steelers fan, so this was big news in my house, even though I live in Washington, DC.  Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is being accused of Sexual Assault/Misconduct for the second time this year.  Details of the exact nature of the assault are not being reported, and he has not been charged with anything, yet.

The details go something like this: Ben goes to a nightclub in Milledgeville, Georgia, near where he owns a lake home.  Before he goes to the club, he is seen around town eating dinner and having a few drinks with friends.  By all accounts he was polite and well mannered.

In the early morning hours, police receive a report by a 20 year old college student that she has been sexually assaulted by Ben inside the Capital City nightclub, a popular hang out for college students.  The entire nightclub is now considered a crime scene by the police.  As of the writing of the post, the exact nature of the assault has not been reported, and the words "rape" have not been used, and Ben has not been charged, so I do not know if we are discussing an non-consensual touching or, in fact, a rape. (Not that either is ok by any means.)

There are reports that Ben got rowdy once inside the club.  One college student reported that she asked Ben for a picture "but he seemed disappointed that's all she wanted."  Amber Hanley said Ben called her an expletive and walked away.

Ben and the alleged victim have been interviewed and the alleged victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.  Ben and his attorney are cooperating with the investigation.  The player's agent, Ryan Tollner, said in a statement he was skeptical of the motive of the alleged victim in Milledgeville because of the previous Lake Tahoe allegations. Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team was gathering information and had no comment.

Tom Davis, the special agent in charge of the regional Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Milledgeville, said that Milledgeville police and the GBI will be working the case throughout the weekend and into next week. Authorities had no plans to comment further until today at the earliest.

Investigators are awaiting lab results, but Davis would not say if anything was taken from Roethlisberger. When the investigation is complete, Davis said the findings will be turned over to the Baldwin County district attorney.
