Corey Haim's Family Sells His Stuff on E-Bay

Haim_shirtless_corey As if the fact that Corey Haim died at 38 while battling drug addiction wasn't sad enough - now his family is raising the money for his funeral by selling the cuter of the two Corey's belongings on eBay.

So you know, you have about a day and a half left if you want to buy Corey Haim's used toothbrush.

As of 8:00 am on Tuesday the bids were up to $265.

This is really sad. I didn't believe the first article I read about Corey's stuff on eBay. It didn't help that the toothbrush was actually not among the new things on sale. Then I read that a close family friend named Scott Schwarts told Access Hollywood that it is true. He is helping the Haim family raise the money to pay for Corey's funeral by selling the actor's personal effects on eBay.

So if you want to buy Corey Haim's very own copy of the WALL-E game for XBOX 360 you have four days left and there aren't any bids on it yet. You could probably pick it up for pretty cheap. The condition is listed as good.

I wonder if it would be tax deductible?

. . . . .

Goon Squad Sarah didn't even realize that Cabela's made video games.

Apparently Haim went to a memorabilia collector and tried to get the guy to sell his tooth. True story. I think.

This is so damned sad. Please, if when I die my family doesn't have the money to bury me, please don't let them sell my freaking toothbrush on eBay! Let them know the fabric (in his case drug?) stash is worth way more.

Washington "Potter's Field" Cube

I don't know about Canada, but in the U.S. and within every State and it's counties, funeral homes in conjunction with cemeteries almost always have arrangements for the indigent in terms of funeral costs and cemetery plots. I would imagine Canada is the same. This eBay business is rather tawdry. Why not auction his prescriptive pill bottles? His hair gel? His remaining tan minutes?

Oh jesus that makes me sick to my stomach. On one hand I feel bad for his family, to be that hard up for cash when they just lost a family member.

But um, at the same time...his toothbrush? Were there no unpublished family photos to sell? I'd probably pay for that, even at my age just out of support for his family. I was a big fan and I wouldn't mind helping out...but this is just dirty.

Also? How is that toothbrush autographed? I mean he's dead right? Did he go around signing various household objects?

Hopefully this story gets some press and reminds people that things like life insurance and pre-paid funerals aren't luxury items.

Who cares? His toothbrush is just going in the garbage otherwise. It's not like he needs it now.

I get to say that because I'm a widow. My husband's toothbrush is still in the holder, but if it was worth something you better believe I would have sold it by now! And he would have wanted me to!!

@Suziannie It is kind of terrifying, isn't it. I cannot imagine how awful it would be to lose a child and then on top of the loss to know that I couldn't afford a funeral without selling his XBOX games on eBay because he was famous once upon a time.

It would have been easier to set up a paypal account and have everyone that was a fan of The Lost Boys on facebook to give a dollar.

So it looks like the toothbrush is being sold by someone who originally bought it off Ebay way back in '02 and is probably looking to make a hunk of cash now that Corey Haim is deceased. And it looks like the Xbox game is being re-sold (along with other games) by the person who just purchased Corey's Xbox and game collection off Ebay mere days ago when it was auctioned off by Scott Schwartz (you remember Flick from a Christmas Story?) - who was selling Corey's personal items to raise money for the funeral (clothing, dvd collection, Xbox + games). You can see what Scott Schwartz sold by checking out "scott568"'s completed listings on Ebay. That money went towards the funeral, this new stuff is just being sold to cash in on his death. According to coreyhaim.us, all funeral costs have now been covered thanks to a friend who runs startifacts.com and donations - and I guess Scott Schwartz's Ebay work.

Can you tell I'm way too invested in this?

Allegedly the rumour of the City of Toronto paying for the funeral came from the fact that his mom was going to file a form with the city to help with costs -- like Washington "Potter's Field" Cube mentioned.

One of the guys that chipped in 20K (from the memorabilia site)for the funeral was the one that Haim sold his tooth to. AND! The dude kept it! http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/movies/article/779804--friend-steps-forward-to-help-pay-for-haim-s-funeral?bn=1

Feldman *cough*DOUCHE*cough* wrote a touching post to his "best friend" and "brother" yesterday too. It's on his blog - The Feldman Journal (coreyfeldman.wordpress.com). He's such an asshat.

(Also, I know where he's being buried)

(Also? I am a creeper. Apparently.)

Is $20,000 not enough to cover a funeral these days?

Depends on the funeral. Where I live you can cremate somebody for about $600. It's basically like a wedding -- you can spend as much or as little as you want.
