16 and Pregnant Preview: Kailyn

16 and pregnant logo We're coming to the end of the second season of 16 and Pregnant, and the preview shows our next teen mom, Kailyn, struggling through a sleepless night with (surprise, surprise) an unhelpful boyfriend.

MTV's 16 and Pregnant - MTV Shows

I don't know if I want to have another baby, but when I consider it, the thought of the sleepless nights always makes my ovaries shudder. For as cute and squishy and amazing as babies are, those first few weeks where they (and you) just do. not. sleep. are so terribly hard. And not sleeping really brings out the worst in people, particularly teenagers who are still growing and still need more sleep than adults.

The interaction between Kailyn and Jo is a good example of how sleep deprivation can turn two relatively normal people into growling assholes. I imagine that these two, like most of the parents that we've seen this season, have tight budgets, so Joe wasting even an ounce of formula sets Kailyn off. However, from what I understand, you can't just put whatever the baby doesn't drink in the fridge and reheat it later. So, really, leaving it out is just gross, but not exactly any more wasteful than it already was. Regardless, Jo could have explained this a little better than sleepily shouting at Kailyn to fuck off. But, like I said, sleep deprivation is bad.

After this episode, Dr. Drew will host a finale special/reunion, wherein we have to hear words come out of the garbage juice dispenser that Josh, who unfortunately procreated with Nikkole, calls his mouth.

I had honestly forgotten about him...or blocked out his existence. I think I had hoped that he had been carried away by banshees or accidentally hopped a bus to Siberia. But no. He's here. Fabulous.

For as much as Josh makes me want to shake him, Nikkole also drives me nuts. I get that she wants her son to have a father...but...DUDE. Josh is awful and this is definitely a case where a growing boy is better off without a father than with him as a male role model. Nikkole needs to wake up and do whatever she can to keep Josh at a distance. I feel for her. I really do. But seeing her subject herself and her son to Josh's outrageous excuse for an existence makes me seethe.

I have a relative in a similar situation as Nikkole. Part of me wants to punch her baby daddy in the head and call it a day. The other part of me wants to shake her and tell her to wake up and stop being so naive.

Things would be so much easier if I ruled the world. And I had a time machine to stop all of this madness to begin with.

I know that Kailyn has more than a plate full of troubles but I'm having a hard time finding empathy for her. She is so outwardly needy that she drives the people around her away. Why was she so afraid to take the SAT's and college tour by herself? The road ahead is much more complicated.

And the boyfriend? WHY is he such a no-account, no-responsibility loser?? His parents are awesome. I hope they're the strongest influence in the baby's life.

My heart goes out to Kailyn. I know what it is like to be a young girl with no support from parents. I am 36 now and I have accepted that my parents will never change and throughout the years I have had to do everything myself and learn along the way from alot of my mistakes. I will say that I am a stronger person because I did do it all myself. I am proud of that too. Kailyn, I know your going to be just fine. Hang in there!!! Keep your spirits up and put your son first in your life and you will get where you want too!!!
