And The Funniest Person Alive Is...Tina Fey!

Tina-Fey If you thought the crown should go to Betty White, what with all the Betty White love-o-palooza happening these days, you'd be wrong.  Tina Fey, ladies and gentlemen.  Tina Fey.  Yeah, suck it, nerds.

The Kennedy Center for The Performing Arts has announced they will be honouring Tina Fey with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.  Previous winners include: Whoopi Goldberg, Neil Simon, Lily Tomlin, Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Steve Martin, George Carlin and Tina's old boss, Lorne Michaels.

In a written statement, Tina jokes "I am truly thrilled to receive this honor. I assume Betty White was disqualified for steroid use."

Tina's long list of comedic accomplishments includes becoming the first female head writer on Saturday Night Live as well as co-anchoring what is wildly regarded as the best seasons of Weekend Update.  Her sharp, intelligent wit and self-depreciating humour, along with the success of 30 Rock, which Tina created, writes and stars in, makes her an obvious choice.

She is far and away my favourite comedienne.  Her impression of Sarah Palin will go down in infamy.  Her Liz Lemon is, to me, the funniest female character on television, past or present.  I'll even cop to seeing Baby Mama.  Twice.

Mark Krantz, co-executive producer of the Twain award, said "She's politically conscious, she's a writer, she's a filmmaker, she's a producer, she's a performer.  Her body of work is as inclusive and far-reaching as anyone else's, and she's just funny."

Tina has previously received seven Emmys, three Golden Globes, four Screen Actors Guild Awards and four Writers Guild of America Awards.  The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor trophy will have good company.

Now, if only Liz could get her trophy - Astronaut Mike Dexter.

Tell me - who is your favourite funny person?  Past or present?

. . . . .
Jen O. wants to be Liz Lemon when she grows up.

Oh yes. I just discovered 30 Rock. How lame is that?

I have to say I am a big fan of Portia de Rossi. I think she's a genius comic actress (if not writer). She just can't get the breaks.

But yeah, Tina Fey. Hella funny.

I am pretty sure my wife would leave me for Tina Fey. Little does she know, the feeling is totally mutual.

I love Tina Fey. Even if she did steal my high school boyfriend.

LOVED that episode. Actually LOVE every episode, show is too funny for words!

Tina Fey ROCKS! And that episode is awesome. Plus, some people think we look similar, and I've gotten free drinks at bars, and a purple tiara because of that resemblance. Go, Tina!

She is indeed quite awesome. Yay Tina!

Don't be ashamed of watching Baby Mama, Jen! It's quoted regularly around here!
"B****, I don't know your life!"
