Louis CK to Star in New Series on FX!

Louis-ck Awesome and foul-mouthed comedian Louis CK, who I once frightened by telling him that he was the male version of me*, will be starring in a new series, Louie, on FX starting June 29.

CK had a short-lived series on HBO called Lucky Louie. The show was a sitcom based on his stand-up routines, the material for which he culls from his real-life experiences as a husband and father.

In the time since Lucky Louie ended, CK had another child and a few years later he and his wife divorced. His new show, simply and perhaps tellingly titled just Louie, looks to be a slightly darker, but still hilarious, look at his life as the single dad of two daughters trying to get back into dating.

CK's comedy often veers into, "Oh, wow, I'm really going to hell for laughing at this," territory, but his bits about his family are hilarious, raw, and self-deprecating, but obviously come from a place of deep affection. In a recent stand-up special, Chewed Up, CK thanks his two daughters, whom he calls the most amazing people that he's ever met. Sniff.

In 2007, we saw him perform live and he talked about his daughter's first day of kindergarten. They had pictured it to be this touching milestone moment in which they cheerfully sent their excited daughter off to school for the first time, while they wiped a single tear away and reflected on how fast she was growing. In reality, the moment was full of, "HOW CAN YOU NOT BE READY YET? ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THIS SHIT?!?! GET IN THE CAR RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOW!" And I nearly had a coronary right then and there because that day had just so happened to be my son's first day of kindergarten and it had been almost the exact same scenario.

I truly feel that CK is one of the best comedians working today and I truly hope that this new series propels him a little further into stardom.

* I got to talk to him for a second after seeing him live a few years ago and he seemed genuinely freaked out by my gushing.
