New So You Think You Can Dance Judges Are Old SYTYCD Judges

So-you-think-you-can-dance The seventh season of So You Think You Can Dance is wrought with changes.  This season, which begins on May 27th, will be an All-Star version and there are a couple of flashy new judges, replacing one of our old favourites.

Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman are in.  But weren't they "in" before?  Yes, they were.  Guest judgingly in.  They will now replace the out-going Mary Murphy, who will still be around on occasion to choreograph and guest judge.  Mia and Adam are in full-time as resident judges.

My goodness, So You Think You Can Dance, that's a lot of shuffling.  To recap: Mary out, but sometimes in.  Mia and Adam in, full-time.

I could not be happier.  Nothing against Mary; no one can scream like that woman can scream and I respect that.  But I love Mia and Adam.  LOVE.  I think Mia has cornered the market in Sophisticated Quirky.  She's wildly bizarre and passionate and immensely talented.  Some of the routines she choreographed for previous seasons are the best I've ever seen.  Tear-jerking.  Goosebump-producing.

And Adam Shankman is the best damn talker I've ever heard.  He can talk forever ad nauseum (in a good way) about anything and everything and he's so smiley and lovely and I love him.

The other change to this season is that some of the dancers are previous Top 20 competitors.  Stephen "tWitch" Boss, Comfort Fedoke, Courtney Galiano, Anya Garnis, Lauren Gottlieb, Neil Haskell, Allison Holker, Mark Kanemura, Pasha Kovalev, Kathryn McCormick, Ade Obayomi and Dominic "D-trix" Sandoval.  A lot of our old favourites back to battle it out in the ultimate All Star dance-off.

ED. NOTE: To clarify, from http://tv.rightcelebrity.com:

"To keep things interesting, the 10 competitors will be partnered up with a different ‘All-Star’ for each episode. According to FOX, these returning champions are “former SYTYCD finalists who are skilled in various styles of dance, including ballroom, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary.” Also, there will only be one dancer getting the boot at the end of each weekly installment."

I'm excited.  Summer tv starts soon, which is my favourite time of year.  Summer tv has nothing to prove to anyone.  It competes with nothing.  Reruns?  Pfft.  Summer tv eats reruns for breakfast.

Love Adam but Mia can't judge if she's choreographing and I would much rather watch her amazing work than listen to her talk. I can always do with less of Mary Murphey's screeching, so WIN!

This makes me beyond thrilled. I usually fast forward thru Mary Murphy's long-winded crap and annoying screams, and the fact that Mia Michaels is back MAKES ME WANT TO GET ON THE HOT TAMAL.. oh, wait.

"The other change to this season is that all of the dancers are previous Top 20 competitors."

Actually, they'll be partnering new contestants, so it'll be half All Stars and half newbies. I...am reserving judgement. Kind of. Mostly.

Jen O.

"all" changed to "some". Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

Erin

I'm interested to see how this pans out -- I'm all for getting rid of Mary (sorry Mary) but I'm a little confused about the All-Star thing. Are the all-stars competing against newbies? I feel like they already had their shot ... although I can't be too upset if it means they're bringing Twitch and Courtney back.

Christina

Yeah, I have to agree with rkmama. I want me to choreograph! Last season really didn't move me nearly as much as previous seasons, and I believe that has entirely to do with the fact that Mia wasn't choreographing last season. BOO! That said, I'm not sad Mary is leaving.

Christina

*edit: I want *MIA* to choreograph. I can't imagine the monkey-driving trainwreck a dance routine choreographed by ME would look like.

Rachel C

*sigh* I so did not miss Mia Michaels. She has WAY too much self-pride.
