You Know What, Redbook? LOTS of Families Don't Have A Nanny

Picture 1 Redbook Magazine nearly wet itself this week. The headline in the "Hot Husbands Issue" reads: "5 Kids & No Nanny: How Chris O'Donnell Does It".

I don't know, Redbook, but my guess would be that Chris O'Donnell and his wife do it just like every other normal family with five children. Newsflash to Redbook: MOST of us don't have a nanny. As I type this my children are behind me making a littlest pet shop cat poop on Obi Wan Kenobe's head. We have no nanny. My husband and I just raise our children. The grandparents help, the neighbors occasionally help us sometimes and we help the neighbors. Other times, we get a babysitter.

Is Chris O'Donnell a super hero because he has five kids an no nanny?

Wait. I apologize. That picture was misleading.

Let's try this again. Is Chris O'Donnell a super hero because he has five kids an no nanny?

Picture 2

No he is just regular guy.

A really good looking regular guy.

With a Redbook photographer to shoot his Christmas cards.

Okay, maybe Chris O'Donnell isn't exactly like us. I mean, he knows George Clooney and Al Pacino.

I'm sure O'Donnell is a great father, but what I am trying to say is that having a bunch of kids and no nanny is not shocking to most of the world. Raising five kids is hard work (I mean, I would imagine. I only have two and that can be difficult so I would imagine having five children is 2 and a half times harder. I am super good at math.) but people all over the globe raise five children with no staff. Some people do it with no spouse. THAT is who we should be writing articles about, single parents with a bunch of children are the real super heroes.

Chris O'Donnell just plays one in the movies.

have i been in a deep sleep or something? when did chris o'donnell get a wife and 5 kids?! good for him and his normalcy.

well, i am sure they are used to the likes of most rich (not even famous) people and how they have a live in nanny or two, a housekeeper, a chef, a driver, etc etc. i am ok with them giving him a bravo. except they didn't seem to want to give much credit (or maybe this from the slant of your piece?) to the WIFE.

I totally agree!

The parents are taking care of the kids. That seems reasonable to me.

We're barely managing 1 kid, so my hat's off to Chris, but y'know, people should ponder on the magnitude of the task -before- having several kids!

And don't count on being able to lean on grandparents - more often they may need to lean on you instead!

Ever notice they almost never show his wife? She's BUSY.

Hm, from the pictures it would appear that, without the help of a nanny, he lost one of the kids.

I didn't want to bring that up, but I noticed that there were only four in one of the photos.

I'm hoping the baby was with her mom.

So glad I'm not the only person who was wondering where the 5th one was.

I had a ginormous crush on him, about 15 years ago. He married his high school sweetheart, if I can remember correctly (I'm gettin' old, y'all!), and she's a teacher. How sweet and normal is that?!? :~)

Well, you didn't say anything about whether the family has a cook, housekeeper, maids, drivers, tutors, etc. And while Chris has a regular gig on NCIS, I'm guessing Mrs O doesn't work. That honestly doesn't sound that hard to me.

I think it is a lot easier for rich people to have 5 kids and no nanny. Also, if his wife is a teacher, she already knows how to deal with multiple kids. In fact, I'm sending my two to the O'Donnell house for a couple of weeks.
