Nerds, Let's Get Butt Naked and Spell

Strip-spelling-beesAmong Canadian hipsters, there's a new craze burgeoning fast on the heels of burlesque: STRIP SPELLING BEES. Crazy Canucks.

The rules at the Honeysuckle Strip Spelling Bee are simple:
  1. Audience photography is banned.
  2. No booing is allowed.
  3. For each incorrectly spelled word, a contestant must remove a specified amount of clothing.
  4. The removal of underwear is optional, depending on the individual contestant's personal choice.

When it comes to rule number four, it turns out that a surprising number of people choose to go without.

  • Spelling-bee-stripper
  • The Honeysuckle Strip Spelling Bee, brainchild of founder and host Sherwin Tija, is held at Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times Theatre. Said Tija, who brought the strip spelling bee to Toronto from its birthplace in Montreal, "I didn't expect that so many participants would get completely naked."

    Naked-girl

I'm not entirely sure what the goal of getting naked while spelling words like A-S-S-E-V-E-R-A-T-E is, but I am guessing that it just might be a tad more difficult to remember if there is one S or two when you're doing it in front of a crowd of people who are all staring at your ta-tas.

There are prizes for both the best speller and the best stripper, which, if you think about it, are really prizes for the best speller and the worst speller. Either way, everyone ends up being a winner in some way, if everyone is into naked people, which I think they pretty much are.

Whether the combination of spelling bees and stripteases make sense or not, you have to admit that watching random individuals get naked sounds like a hell of a lot of fun, especially if your favoured contestant turns out to be a really crappy speller.

    . . . . .
Schmutzie surprised herself by hearkening back to vintage Ice-T lyrics in the title.

I'm a really good speller, but if I looked even halfway decent in lingerie, I'd purposely spell words wrong ;)
