Things Go Boom In The A-Team

The-A-Team I don't know if you've heard, but they've made that old tv show The A-Team into a movie!  I mean, there hasn't been much press on this little film, but after some intense research, I've dug up a thing or two about it.

Starring the incomparable Liam Neeson as Colonal John "Hannibal" Smith, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton (is that a real name? I mean, other than the rat from Charlotte's Web?) "Face" Peck, Sharlto Copley as "Howling Mad" Murdock (he doesn't even get a first name, so I guess Templeton is better than nothing), and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson as Sgt. Bosco "B.A." Baracus (I like his real nickname better), the role made famous by everyone's favourite fool-pitier, Mr. T.  The A-Team takes the same basic plot - four military veterans framed for a crime they didn't commit, seek to clear their name while on the run from the law.  The t.v. show had our heroes as Vietnam vets, while in the movie, they're Iraq vets.  And I think the movie will be louder.

The-a-team-2010

The movie is probably exactly like the original 80's series, but on steroids.  On steroids, with more cussing, and probably more sex because Bradley Cooper is in it and he Is Hollywood's newest hottie patottie or whatever, and most definitely more explosions.  Things most certainly go boom.  Oh!  And they fly a tank.  They fly.  A tank.

For better or worse, and after watching that clip it's probably way worse, this is not Mr. T's A-Team.  In fact, Mr. T himself recently saw a screening of the film and he was not impressed.  Mr. T says "People die in the film and there's plenty of sex but when we did it, no one got hurt and it was all played for fun and family entertainment.  These seem to be elements nobody is interested in anymore.  It was too graphic for me.  I've no doubt it will do big business at the box office, but it's nothing like the show we turned out every week."

So...he pities the fool who sees the movie?  In general, I'm all for remakes.  I like to compare and contrast the old and the new.  Mind you, rarely does a remake live up to my nostalgic memory of a classic from my childhood, but I enjoy it nonetheless.  In the very least, it makes me appreciate the originals that much more.  But I don't know, man.  On one hand, I can't recall a bad Liam Neeson performance.  Oh, sure, he's been in some bad movies, but his performances are usually fairly respectable.  And I sure did like District 9.  Bradley Cooper can be funny at times (I nearly peed when he yelled "WHAT?" at Jessica Beil on the MTV VMA's this weekend).  And Rampage sure is...Rampage.

On the other hand?  Flying tanks.  I never actually saw the show because I was something like four when it was on, but I'm pretty sure flying tanks weren't a staple of the original.  But maybe it won't ruin the whole movie completely.

Or maybe it will.

The A-Team opens nationwide this Friday June 11th.

I can vouch for the validity of Templeton as a name. Grew up near a town named Templeton. And went to school with a kid with the last name of Templeton.

I'm the opposite of you. I get stabby when remakes happen.

My colleague did some walk on work in the movie. Look for a scene of Germans shouting stuff. Apparently, she's in there :) I'll see it JUST so I can watch for her.

Sharlto Copley!!!
