Just Jack is gonna sing us in, people! Is it true that Cheno outed him or am I slow in my closet-freeing goss?
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:01 PM
I'm here! Sean Hayes was so good in Promises, Promises. That was not a good show though.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:01 PM
and the sound dept for the Tonys does NOT get an Emmy this year.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:01 PM
I'm going back to NYC in Nov. Million $ quartet is so on my list of what I want to see!
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:03 PM
OHMYG-d Memphis was fantastic!
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:03 PM
Sure Cheno is an amazing talent, but i'll always be in awe of not her voice, but her ability to LIVE in those spike heels she always wears.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:04 PM
So are they gonna make a new category for these dance shows with no original music or live singing? They're not revivals, they're not traditional musicals, they're reviews, right? God, I'm such a theatre snob.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:06 PM
Fela is going to win best musical. But Memphis really should win.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:07 PM
I smell a sweep from "American Idiot," "Rent" stylie.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:11 PM
I'm sorry. I am the lone unfan of Green Day on Broadway.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:13 PM
I say Fella. But I'm rooting for Memphis.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:14 PM
I also am not a fan of gLee making an appearance. It's not singing if autotune is involved.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:15 PM
One thing you don't realize about Chenoworth is she is tiny. TINY.
Nice shout out to the NEWSWEEK article.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:15 PM
Oh SNAP re: closeted right wingers watching in secret! Just Jack is doing vair well right now.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:16 PM
@Sarah-
I didn't like American Idiot. There, I said it.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:16 PM
I FORGOT SCARLETTE JOHANSSEN IS MARRIED TO MY BOYFRIEND.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:16 PM
Ryan Reynolds' arms should be nominated for every awards show. Even the Westminster Dog Show. EVERY AWARD GOES TO RYAN REYNOLDS' ARMS.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Oh, it's our fave.. KATIE HOLMES, THE TRIPLE THREA.. oh, I couldn't even get it out without laughing.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Wow is Radcliffe that short?
Posted by: Amy Phillips | June 13, 2010 at 08:18 PM
KATIE HOLMES IS GOING TO BE IN A MUSICAL???????????
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Also, she's got major over-boob.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Katie-Bot and Harry Potter, proving Tom Cruise's true height difference to his "wife"
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:19 PM
Please don't let ScarJo win. DAMMIT! She's NOT that good.
Posted by: Amy Phillips | June 13, 2010 at 08:19 PM
I do not like ScarJo. I don't get it.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:20 PM
You're married to Ryan Reynolds' arms and you don't kiss him when you win a Tony? WAT?
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:20 PM
Dear God, make her SHUT UP!
Posted by: Amy Phillips | June 13, 2010 at 08:21 PM
@MissBanshee -- YES. Dude, I wouldn't have to win an award to kiss him, but if you're definitely a winner? DO NOT KISS YOUR COSTAR FIRST.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:21 PM
Tonys don't have play-off music?
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:22 PM
RICKY MARTIN IS COMING TO BROADWAY?????????
I can't handle this.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:23 PM
I've seen clips of "Million Dollar Quartet" and of course the original recordings and it's stellar, but it's not an original musical. There, I said it.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:24 PM
I love theatre. This does my soul good.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:24 PM
I thought the same thing about Moving Out, MB.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:25 PM
@Miss Banshee-
there is no original musical theater anymore. That is why I loved Memphis so much. It was the first original thing I had seen in years.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:25 PM
@Jodi, I saw Ricky in one of the trillion times I saw Les Miz and WHOA was he not good. I hope he's improved in the many years since. I feel he has.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:25 PM
TypePad is giving me hell tonight. Why do I have to a captcha every time?
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:26 PM
@M.B.-
They said he was doing Evita? That's a tough role.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:27 PM
@Sarah Lena, you gotta sign into Typepad, sweetpea!
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:28 PM
I am so annoyed that I missed the beginning.
Posted by: Maria | June 13, 2010 at 08:30 PM
Evita with Ricky Martin? That's...interesting.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:30 PM
Oh, look at how much better that is. DUR.
Shit like this is WHY I do theatre. I need to be directed.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:30 PM
And now I'll never catch up! POUT.
Posted by: Maria | June 13, 2010 at 08:31 PM
How do y'all feel about film celebs being on Broadway? Yay or nay or dependent on celeb?
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:32 PM
@M.B.-right? Evita w/ Ricky Martin? And who is going to play Eva Peron? Miley Cyrus?
@Maria-Green Day played and they did a medley from the nominated shows. Sean and Kristen C. Kissed. Scar Jo won for best featured actress. I best you could catch the songs on you tube tomorrow.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:32 PM
@Sarah Lena it really depends on the "star." I think it showed that Daniel Radcliffe can really act, and it gives a chance for stars who started in theatre to go back to their roots, but stunt casting can easily go terribly wrong.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:34 PM
YAY FOR LA CAGE! I'm a sucker for it.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:35 PM
Does Kelsey Grammar's toupee get a Tony nod?
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:35 PM
@Sarah-I think it depends on the celeb. Equity used to hate it, but I think if it brings much needed attention to theater I don't mind.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:35 PM
@Maria don't say that! We love that you're here!
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:36 PM
@Maria don't say that! We love that you're here!
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:36 PM
My parents saw La Cage. They said Kelsey Grammer was unbelievable.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:36 PM
seems like slim pickings this year. Sad face. Sorry, am late to the party!
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:36 PM
Ladies and gentlemen, THIS IS WHAT LIVE THEATRE CAN DO.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:37 PM
@Alyssa-I saw Memphis and loved it. I'm really pulling for it. I think Fella is going to win. M.B. thinks Am. Idiot is going to win.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:37 PM
Hi Alyssa! We're thrilled you're here, dahling!
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:37 PM
Love La cage! Sing it!
Posted by: Amy Phillips | June 13, 2010 at 08:39 PM
I gotta start volunteer ushering again. I haven't seen a show in ages, and I'm FAR too close to NYC for excuses.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:39 PM
K, so I'm mega theater nerd to the max, but I know NOTHING of Fela! Probably something to do with my insane year, but I gotta say I'm pulling for Memphis. And, I agree, people dancing to Frank Sinatra's voice does not equal Tony-worthy.
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:39 PM
How did I not know about this contest on YouTube to be shown at the Tonys?! I MISSED MY BIG BREAK.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:40 PM
tis vair vair difficult to do an open thread with two kittens on one's keyboard. HIE THEE AWAY, SMALL FURRY ONES!
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:41 PM
@Alyssa-it is reggae and caribean music. I haven't seen it. I'm also a theater nerd to the max.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:42 PM
Alyssa, I was a theatre major in college. Geek to the MAX over heah.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:44 PM
I haven't heard Fela, but Neil Patrick Harris LOVED it. Said it was a very physical show.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:44 PM
WOW.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:45 PM
@ M.B. and jodifur- it appears I have found my people!
Holy crap, Sean Hayes.
God, I loved "Nine"
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:45 PM
The writers of the zingers Just Jack is banging out better get some Emmy nods.
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:46 PM
My husband used to work with Kenny Leon in Atlanta. He just jizzed a little bit at the realization that he knows a Tony nominee.
Posted by: Sarah Lena | June 13, 2010 at 08:46 PM
I've heard really good things about Red.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:47 PM
Good to see "Red" getting awards, it being an ORIGINAL piece (nothing against Fences or View from a Bridge, but they freaking swept the first time they were performed.) /snob rant
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:48 PM
okay typepad, what's up with captcha? I'm logged in and everything. You are really starting to piss me off.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:48 PM
Agreed, Miss Banshee. And double that sentiment for original musicals.
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:48 PM
I swear, Antonio Banderas could read the phone book and I'd be swooning!
Posted by: Mary Beth Graham | June 13, 2010 at 08:49 PM
I cannot say enough good things about Memphis.
I'll stop now.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:49 PM
You know one of the original members of Bon Jovi wrote the music for Memphis?
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:50 PM
I have to read up on this Red - I've never heard of it and it seems to be winning everything!
Posted by: Mary Beth Graham | June 13, 2010 at 08:52 PM
Vibrator play sounds amazing.
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:52 PM
"Next Fall" is on my TKTS list, for certain. as is "Red."
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:53 PM
All these plays sound amazing. WHY IS B'WAY SO EXPENSIVE?!?!?!??
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:54 PM
Laura Linney is always on Broadway. I think she just play hops.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:55 PM
What is up with sound and general production on this show? Did anyone else hear what sounded like someone giving camera directions there?
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 08:55 PM
Jon Bon Jovi is looking good!
Posted by: Mary Beth Graham | June 13, 2010 at 08:56 PM
MEMPHIS WAS SO GOOD.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:56 PM
@Alyssa, the writing is fab, but the production, especially sound, is TERRIBLE. WTF?
Posted by: Miss Banshee | June 13, 2010 at 08:57 PM
@Alyssa-I think Cris Noth screwed up and they were directing him. But yes, you should not have heard it.
Posted by: jodifur | June 13, 2010 at 08:57 PM
Oh no! When did Angela Lansbury get so OLD?!?!?!
Posted by: Alyssa | June 13, 2010 at 09:01 PM
