One year ago today I was sitting in a terrible college summer dinner theater performance, killing my iPhone battery from relentless under-the-table Googling and scrolling through a deluge of "Michael Jackson is dead" updates on Tweetie.
My mind was blown. It was a weird day. Farrah died. Michael died. Scroll scroll scroll.
Hey, I'm not trying to jock up the joint over here. This is a pop culture website, not a sports blog. So I'll spare you the details about why you should be watching the World Cup even if you're not a sports fan (sanctioned daytime drinking and several shirtless menfolk, for starters). But I wouldn't be your friend if I didn't show you this pop culture/sports crossover moment of glory, surprisingly courtesy of a star of film and television. Seriously, in terms of sports, this is, like, better than Rudy.
I was ready to banish Neil Patrick Harris to the land of wind and ghosts for introducing that vomit-making Smurfs trailer ("Hi guys, here's a few seconds of some complete shit we made and it only cost us the state budget of California"). But things are now all better between me and NPH, because he'll be in the third Harold And Kumar movie.
Ooooooh boy, does the Bad Moms Club nail it on this one. Adam Carolla, someone I have never found funny, has become ESPECIALLY not funny, I mean, WICKED PISSAH not funny by making horrible jokes regarding his daughter's weight. AH. MAH. GAH.
Have you seen the new The Karate Kid with Jaden Smith? I haven't. I've heard it's good, but to me Ralph 'Babyface' Macchio will always be THE Karate Kid. I love my 80s icons, that's why I was so happy to see that one of latest Funny or Die videos stars my former teen heart-throb in Wax On, F*ck Off.
Punky Brewster was one of my favorite shows on the teevee when I was but a wee gal. I liked Punky's spunk, but she wasn't my favorite (officially, that was Brandon). I preferred Punky's BFF Cherie Johnson, who, in my opinion, stole the show. She was cute, sassy and smart, and she was the reason I wore headbands around my forehead. I got pushed on the playground for that.
We always hear about Punky. Punky this, Punky that. I don't want to hear about Punky. What happened to Cherie?
I had the incredible pleasure of interviewing Carrie Ann Inaba of Dancing With The Stars and now Housecat Housecall, presented by Purina Cat Chow on Animal Planet, beginning this Saturday at 10:30 AM. There is this French actress, see? And I saw a picture of her sometime this last week in which she was looking so freaking cool and like I should completely fall in love with her in a totally devoted but non-creepy way.

And so I asked Who is that woman?, and I was told that it was none other than Delphine Chanéac from the movie Splice, and so I decided to devote today to her beautiful visage, because it is important to have beautiful things to look at.

We knew him as Bastian in The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter or from a number of movies and television guest appearances, but unfortunately we didn't know him long. Talented actor, screenwriter and director Jonathan Brandis hanged himself at age 27.
Having left no suicide note, the reasons for his suicide are left to speculation.
Who'd have thunk it? Either I am getting old or pop culture just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
