Lost Epilogue: The New Man in Charge

Lost-complete-collection-dvd  Okay, first let me just put this out there and get the rotten-vegetable pelting out of the way: I enjoyed the final episode of Lost and have only very minor quibbles with how they chose to end the series. I realize I am in the minority here. But I was in with the majority of people who hated how the The Sopranos ended at the time, but now realize that the cut-to-black finale was completely fucking brilliant and so this time maybe I'm just trying to make it easier on myself and skip the whole change-of-heart process because it's kind of tiring.

The Winners of Disney's Alice In Wonderland DVD/Blu-Rays Are...

Entries were trickling in until the late hours of Wednesday night.  Well, not so much "trickling in" as "blasting in with the crippling force of a fire hose".   And so the time has come, the walrus said, to talk of many things.  Like shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings.  And why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings.  But mostly to announce the winners, of course.

Random Number Generator had PLENTY of entries to choose from, so let's see what it came up with...

Judge Refuses to Block Release of Jersey Shore DVD

Jersey-shore-ratings 3 people sued to have the DVD of MTV's Jersey Shore blocked from being released because they said their reputations would be damaged.  They can be seen fighting with the cast members in certain episodes.  State Superior Court Judge Joseph Foster rejected the request.  Again.

Tim And Eric Awesome Show Great Job! Season Cinco

Te_heads I have decided to take a break from my usual American Idol Recap this week. Partly because the show has sucked since Ellen arrived but more importantly, so I can bring you a special announcement. The best show in the history of television is back for its fifth season and this makes me very happy.

'Herb & Dorothy' Gives Me a Glimpse of a Glorious Future

Herb-and-dorothy-vogel-megumi-sasaki When I think of an ideal future for my husband and I it is this: That we'll remain in love, be interested as well as interesting, still hold hands when we take a walk and continue to create and appreciate art. In other words, I'd like to be Herb and Dorothy Vogel, a postal worker and a librarian living in a tiny, one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan who have managed to amass one of the most important contemporary art collections in history. The documentary of their life, Megumi Sasaki's Herb & Dorothy, was just released on DVD and it will be only the second DVD I've purchased for myself in five years.

Warning: Incredibly un-cynical, heart warming, inspiring love story up ahead.

Flashback Friday - Steel Magnolias

Steel_magnolias  If I had to pick the movie I most often quote, it'd be Steel Magnolias with a bullet.

Please To Allow Your Pal TwoBusy To Drop Some 2009 Awesomeness Science Upon You

Mono_Hymn_To_The_Immortal_Wind Greetings, my pretties. "Oh, TwoBusy," you say. "What sharp teeth you have." Right you are, my pretties. All the better to chew up a great big ol' slab of 2009 pop cultural goodness and masticate it into an easily digestible (and nutritious!) list of funtastic stuff you might've missed in the year that is about to be the year that was. Would you care for a drink? Probably not a bad idea. This here is thirsty work. Are we ready? Excellent. Pick up your No.2 pencils... and let's begin.

Celebrating the Holidays With A Trip To Hell: Liveblogging the Sex and the City Movie

Sex_and_the_city Tonight, I discovered that love means sacrifice.Sacrificing my dignity. Sublimating my masculinity. Shredding any sense of self-respect I may once have had. Why? Because I agreed to watch the Sex and the City movie with my wife via the magic of On Demand. And because I have a post due on MamaPop... I'm sharing my pain with you. Proceed with caution.

10 Reasons Polygamy Is The Way, As Informed By My Engaged Viewing Of Big Love

Big_love Me and my wife don't smoke crack so we watch TV on DVD, compulsively. Like, just one more before bed. Please baby. One more episode. That kind of thing. So anyway, we recently started watching Big Love and I can't stop thinking about having sex with a bunch of women and having it sanctioned by my religion. Because, obviously, that would rock the house.

Let's Pretend It's May and It Just Came Out: Hey, Everyone — I Just Saw The New Star Trek!

Star_trekOne of the most wonderful things about having lots of small kids is the fact that in many ways, it's like I live in a state of pop culture suspended animation. Meaning: it generally takes me between 6-24 months to catch up on most pertinent social phenomena. With that in mind, please enjoy the following review of the brand new Star Trek movie.

"There's Two Of Them!" Six Highly Informative and Possibly Even Educational Movies About Twins

Double_Impact When my wife and I discovered that our in-production kid #2 was, in fact, going to be kids #2 and #3... a lot changed quickly. Our house suddenly became too small. Our car suddenly became inadequate to the task of hauling around our unnatural number of children. Our plans for a neat and orderly future suddenly went up in flames. And - perhaps most important, surpassing even the knowledge that "the twins" was no longer going to be an acceptable metaphor for breasts - every movie we'd ever seen about twins suddenly became a training ground for the years to come.

Talking Heads: Star Trek, Old And New, And Chuck

Star-trek-final-theatrical-one-sheet-revealed-337x500.0.0.0x0.337x500 Welcome to the inaugural edition of Talking Heads. No, not the band. Talking Heads is an ongoing discussion between Corey Feldman and William Shatner about pop culture, life and whatever else happens to be affecting them that week. It's just them, via their disembodied floating heads, having a bit of a talk show. There will be guest stars, on occasion, and things we could only call antics according to various international treaties involving Guam. This time out there's a certain movie recently released on DVD, there are introductions to do and things to discuss!
