Yo Gabba Gabba and Anthony Bourdain - No, Not Just in My Fever Dream

Yo-gabba-gabba My kids have liked a lot of show that I have loathed in their five short years, but there are standouts, shows that I love. One Is Phineas and Ferb, another is Yo Gabba Gabba. So yesterday when my sister in-law sent me a video of one of my favorite celebrity chefs on Yo Gabba Gabba I almost soiled my drawers.

Really. Anthony Freaking Bourdain on Yo Gabba Gabba!

Old Sitcoms Are New Again, Just Ask My Teenager

The-nanny-fran-drescher A couple of weeks ago I was having dinner with a few parents of teenagers, and the subject came up of how to better understand our kids. We all agreed that besides reading their diaries and tapping their cell phones, it was important to try and delve a little into their world for clues - what music do they listen to? What shows are they watching? Where are they hiding the beer?

Green Day Adopted My Son

Billie_joe_armstrong My kids are crazy about Green Day. Whether it's my 5-year-old daughter doing ballet spins around the living room while sweetly requesting me to wake her up before September ends or my 11-year-old son pumping his fist and urging me to know my enemy, they're sold on Green Day without question. Certified Green Day heads.

And I have a confession to make. I just didn't get it. Their enthusiasm for Green Day made me feel like my Dad.

A couple weeks ago, I wrote about the Beastie Boys and the way they appeared in my life right when my life needed a soundtrack, something tumultuous and funky. They made my Dad sneer and shake his head. And then twenty-some years later, I scoffed my way right into being my Dad. 21st Century Breakdown? Pfft.

But then I saw them last week. And they killed me. I stood dumfounded in the midst of something much bigger than an obviously great show. It was the vision of my son hearing himself. I watched my son raging into his very own face.

Pixar's Up - A Review In Which We Discuss Everything but the Plot

Carl_fredricksen_pixar-disney-up Up is the latest offering from the good people at Disney/Pixar.  I'll tell you right now, if you're here for some snark and some hate and some throwing rocks at the kid on the pedestal, it ain't gonna happen.  It's too good.  And I like throwing rocks, especially at kids on pedestals, but mostly just kids.

I'm also not going to provide any spoilers because, and this is new, they SPOIL shit.  Who wants to be that guy?  Oh, and Darth Vader is Luke's dad.  Deal with it.
