Top Five 80s TV Dads

Cosby-sweater  Fathers Day is coming up this weekend, a time of year I find myself thinking a lot about those Coogi-sweatered, sensitive dads from prime time. Thus, consider this a special, Monday edition of Flashback Friday. Here are my top five dads of 80s TV:

Revisiting June 1991

Sonic1-eu-front Ah, June - the month when the schools close forcing me to take care of my own children ALL. DAY. LONG.

*hyperventilates*

June is also the month where I go to buy my husband a father's day card only to be inundated with graduation cards reminding me that I graduated from high school almost 20 years ago. True story. I graduated from high school 19 years ago in good old 1991. Remember 1991?

Flashback Friday - Smurfette Syndrome

Smurfette  Today's Flashback is brought to you by a major bee in my bonnet. A lot of television shows geared at children, particularly in the 80s, featured one single female character. It's amazing, as a child, that I didn't develop the mistaken impression that men actually outnumbered women in the world 8 to 1 or something. Today, we reflect on some token females in children's television of yore.

Things Go Boom In The A-Team

The-A-Team I don't know if you've heard, but they've made that old tv show The A-Team into a movie!  I mean, there hasn't been much press on this little film, but after some intense research, I've dug up a thing or two about it.

Jonathan Brandis, Dead of Suicide at 27 [Celebrity Kids Gone Bad]

Jonathan-brandis-100x100  We knew him as Bastian in The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter or from a number of movies and television guest appearances, but unfortunately we didn't know him long.  Talented actor, screenwriter and director Jonathan Brandis hanged himself at age 27.

Having left no suicide note, the reasons for his suicide are left to speculation.

Celebrity Kids Gone Bad: Natasha Lyonne

Natasha-Lyonne-Mugshot-thumbWho among us didn't enjoy the movie American Pie? At the time, I thought it was the funniest movie I had ever seen. Natasha Lyonne played the role of Jessica, the brash, sarcastic gal who seemed to accept that she'd always be the sidekick.

So what happened?  Where did she go?

Hey, Remember That Kid From That Movie-Story That Never Ended? [Where Are They Now?]

Atreyu-Noah-Hathaway-Gmork-The-Neverending-Story I read your comments and the overwhelming nomination from last week for my Where Are They Now series was Atreyu from the Neverending Story. That's Die unendliche Geschichte for our German readers.  I live to give, folks.  I live to give.  Except there are limits, and that's all the German I know.  Except schweinerhünd.  But that's another story.

So, where's Atreyu now?
