MamaPop Video Roundtable: Eaten By A Grue Edition

SpaceinvadersOur generation (the ones who sat around in the '80s thinking Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark was a cool name band) was probably the first to grow up with video games.  Cradle to grave, pixels and polygons will blip after us, demanding our dollars and keeping us from hitting that next level.  Which we will totally get to.  And then we'll take out the garbage, honest.

MamaPop Video Roundtable: No One Said Funyuns Edition

Junk-food Junk food.  Chips, pop, cake, fries, Doritos.  All of it made from a combination of space-age materials and corn.  It's not food - it's material!  And our official MamaPop position on junk food is: we love it. We grew up on it. Craved it as children, resented our parents for not letting us have every bag of corn chips or gummi worms or scarlet licorice twist we wanted.  Robbed convenience stores for those fake strawberry things (What the hell were those things anyway?)  And now that we're all grown-up, I figure at least 30% of our DNA is candy.

This week, MamaPop confesses to our love of junk food.

MamaPop Roundtable Video: Red-Blooded Action Movie Star Edition

Captain howdy exorcist movie Bing, pow, boom, kablammo: these are the sounds of the Hollywood action movie.  And no action flick is complete without a muscled-up lunk crashing cars and jumping off buildings.  This week, MamaPop's team of people who talk to their webcams talk about their favourite red-blooded action movie heroes.

MamaPop Video Roundtable: Our Imaginary Friends Edition

Tim Gunn Here at MamaPop, we believe. We believe the children are our past (seasons 1-3), our future (season 4), 1977 (season 5) and an alternate universe where the Island sank.  We believe because it's better than the terrifying alternative.  We also believe, somewhere deep beneath the rational portions of our brain, that the made-up people we see on our tv and movie screens actually exist somewhere, horsing around in an alternate dimension. This week on the MamaPop Roundtable video: the fictional characters we'd love to hang out with in real life.

MamaPop Video Roundtable: Slap Snuggie Spray Flex Infomercial Edition

Vince_Slap_Chop Do you like it when the little people in your television start screaming at you to buy useless crap?  Do you cry with sorrow at the sight of people reduced to infantile twitching by sleeveless blankets or manual potato peelers? Then you must be like the writers of MamaPop.  Because we love infomercials, from their bogus demonstrations to the sky-high promises and ease and comfort.  Infomercials show us that a world of leisure and convenience awaits us all, if only we'd buy that pasta maker. Or can of spray-on hair.

MamaPop Video Roundtable: Back in Time Edition

Back-to-the-future-fox-glover Everyone wants to change the past.  Who among us hasn't fantasized about crawling back through the air vents of time to fix the godawful clanking engine of history?  This week, the writers of MamaPop talk about what they'd do if they had the Back-To-The-Future-style power to go back in time.  Some would turn water into Jello. Others would drop kick Sisquo's career off a cliff.  On this we all agree: the past was better before.

What would you do? Kill Hitler? Cut off Billy Ray Cyrus' mullet (which is the source of his strength)?  Maybe prevent John Connor from being born, thereby delivering humanity over to Skynet? You sick, metal-loving freak.  Watch the video and share your two cents in the comments!

MamaPop Video Roundtable: Best Picture Edition

The_Hurt_LockerMovies! They're magic! Or more precisely, they're science! But whatever!  The important thing is, movies are money. And every year, a lot of people in Hollywood get together and vote on their favourites.  Then they spend a lot of money on The Academy Awards to congratulate on each other on being so much damned money.  Sometimes, as a bonus, a really good film gets a prize.

Here at MamaPop, the one thing we don't have is money.  Or time to go see movies.  But we have opinions.  And here are our opinions on which films should take home the Oscar for Best Picture.

MamaPop Video Roundtable: Fantasy Reality Show Edition

300px-DrDrew Have you ever watched people run through the back alleys of Nairobi, screaming at each other, the sweat and desperation flying off their faces, and think to yourself: Man, I could totally kick some ass if I were on The Amazing Race?  This week, a reader asked MamaPop's writers which reality show they'd most like to appear on.  Warning: Fake mustache alert.

MamaPop Roundtable Video: Plastic Surgery Victims Edition

Axl_Rose Does anyone remember the sick, vertiginous shock of first seeing Axl Rose after his chemical peel and the lift that gave him the look of someone permanently caught in the blast of a jet engine? How about the spike of pity on seeing Lindsay Lohan's boobs simply hovering in front of her chest?  At MamaPop, we remember. We weep.  We cover our faces in tape for your entertainment.
